Recording output from monitor?

Anyone know a way to simply record a stream directly from your videocard to video?

I'm gonna be creating some screencast tutorials and the current screencasting programs like Camtasia and Captivate are total shit, they record ok but the editing options are basically useless, audio editing almost non-existant so after recording I have to export to avi and then do my edits in Premiere which takes forever since it has to encode the video and THEN I can open it in Premiere so not only does it take more time, it also encodes 2 times degrading quality.

I'm a fish in water in Premiere, but there's no way do screenrecording straight from Premiere so I was thinking there was some program that could stream from the videocard and use that as a capture source in Premiere?
