As I started to tweak UT3 based on the suggestions in this forum, I realized I wanted to make sure UT2004 and UT had all the updated tweaks to make them run slightly better as well. I'm mostly concerned with mouse and crosshair settings to make my aim better, but some other ones creap in as well and some that are absent from my game files that some online tweak guides talk about will be mentioned also. I will mention what the setting is or ask questions or give what I think might be the answer if I have an idea. Let me know what you guys think. Let's start with UT2004 in this thread (I'll start another one for UT)!
IN-GAME MENU
DISPLAY
- why does brightness show about 80% full, contrast show about 70% full and gamma show about 20% full, but gamma in UT2004.ini show 80% (or 0.800000)?
AUDIO AND PLAYER SECTIONS SEEM FINE FOR NOW
GAME
- I have auto aim off already, so this should be fine.
INPUT
- let's not worry how I configured my controls for this one as it could get lengthy.
- mouse smoothing is on (I'm guessing this needs to be off)
- reduce mouse lag is on (I'm guessing this should be off)
- mouse sensitivity (game) - 3.00 (I'm guessing this should be 2 or same as menus)
- mouse sensitivity (menus) - 1.25
- mouse smoothing strength - 0.30 (I'm guessing this should be 0.00)
- mouse acceleration threshold - 0.00
WEAPONS
- custom weapon crosshairs is on (I'm guessing this needs to be off)
- crosshair set to cross(1) (I believe this needs to be on dot)
- red, green, blue and opacity are all set to 100% (this needs to be set like the UT3 suggestions to pink)
OTHER SECTIONS ARE FINE FOR NOW
UT2004.INI FILE
- same gamma setting problem linked to above question
- CaptureMouse=True (maybe this just gets your mouse settings, but not sure but I think it's fine)
- MouseXMultiplier=1.000000, MouseYMultiplier=1.000000 (I think these are OK)
- ReduceMouseLag=True (see above)
USER.INI FILE
[Engine.Input]

(these two settings are probably fine, wait for UT3 you said 1.2, what about UT2004?)

bAlwaysMouseLook=True (I believe this is fine)

bCrosshairShow=True (I always let the crosshairs show, it's just two hard without them but it's been done)
CrosshairScale=1.000000

CrossHairColor=(B=255,G=255,R=255,A=255)
- I believe these last 4 crosshair settings will have to change similar to the in-game menu settings above.
[Engine.PlayerInput]
MouseSamplingTime=+0.008333 (this command doesn't even show up in my section; in fact, the section is completely missing as well)
[UnrealGame.UnrealPawn]
bPlayOwnFootSteps=True (this might be cool for a couple matches, but I bet it gets irritating quickly; this command is not even listed in the section anyway).
Other questions:
- do we need to worry about custom coordinates for crosshairs in UT2004 as in UT3?
- is there a translocator toggle problem like UT3?
- do we need to worry about bCenteredWeaponFire in UT2004 like UT3?
